Pearl Model 680 "Hummingbird" acoustic dreadnought guitar is an incredibly rare and highly collectible piece of Japanese guitar history.
Manufactured in the early 1970s by the legendary Hayashi Gakki factory in Japan (commissioned by Pearl Musical Instrument Co.), this top-of-the-line model is a stunning example of the famous "lawsuit-era" craftsmanship.
The Model 680 was one of Pearl's most premium acoustic offerings from this short-lived era. It is a highly accurate, beautifully crafted tribute to the iconic Gibson Hummingbird. It features the signature Cherry Sunburst finish, distinct split-parallelogram fretboard inlays, and the iconic ornate pickguard detailed with a hummingbird and flowers.
A fantastic feature of this guitar is the factory-original adjustable saddle/bridge, allowing you to easily adjust the string action to your exact preference with just a screwdriver. Having aged naturally for over 50 years, the tonewoods have opened up beautifully, delivering a deeply resonant, warm, and articulate vintage voice that modern guitars simply cannot replicate.
Key Features:
- Premium MIJ Lawsuit Craftsmanship: Built during the golden age of Japanese guitar manufacturing at the renowned Hayashi Gakki workshop.
- Iconic Aesthetics: Stunning multi-tone Cherry Sunburst finish with the classic Hummingbird pickguard and fretboard markers.
- Adjustable Bridge: Original design makes setups quick, precise, and effortless.
- Collector's Item: Pearl only produced acoustic guitars for a very brief window in the 1970s, making the high-end Model 680 exceptionally hard to find today.
Condition:
Please note: There is a thin, visible hairline crack on the wooden bridge/saddle area (see dedicated close-up photo). It appears to be stable and does not currently affect the guitar's tuning stability, playability, or structural integrity, but it is mentioned here for full transparency.
Apart from that, the guitar is in Good vintage condition for its age. The neck is straight, the original paper label is fully intact inside the soundhole (Model No. 680), and it plays beautifully across the entire fretboard.
